Dear Dino friend,

­­­­An ignition system failure probably is the most frequent reason for a brakedown of our Dinos. Broken capacitors, springs of the brake points, broken Dinoplex or coil, all of them usually lead to a sudden end of your ride out. After Murphys Law this usually happens far from home and from a capable workshop. We all are familiar with what you are going through in such a case:

  • Your wife will tell you that this finally has been the last time she put a foot into an old car.
  • You will find your self on the phone somehow managing to get your Dino home
  • Probably you booked a table in a nice restaurant and have to give up the enjoyable dinner for a snack at the gas station.

Thus and with the same tension Dino owners are discussing which ignition system is the one and only for the Dinos.
Philosophies go from "Must be 100% original" over "original look with modern electronics is fine" to some technical overkill ideas.

The representatives for each idea all have strong and reasonable arguments so after all each Dino owner decides himself what he will put into his Dino.

However you decide, we have you covered.

  • Original Ignition system­
  • ­Contact points
    Only the OEM ones are reliable. 
 Unterbrecher China Others often brake after a few hundred kilometers/miles leading to the scenario we describe at the beginning. 

Reproductions often can be detected as they have burrs on the springs and are not riveted with good care. Also the isolators come in plastic instead of pertinax.

  • Capacitors
Same with the capacitors you have to keep your eyes open for quality replacements.

There are two good options:

   
 Kondensator 1. The big car industry suppliers make good capacitors but the mounting bracket differs a little.

 

 Kondensator MM 2. And NOS OEM parts, best to identify when still in their original packaging.
  • Distributor Caps and Fingers
    Again, there is a choice between NOS and reproductions.
    Best to have original Magneti Marelli's. We get them in from time to time but they are becoming more rare and expensive.

We cannot always guarantee the availability of NOS parts but find them regularly and stock up whenever we can.

  • DinoPlex and Coil
    If at all these only become available used. We test them on our ignition bench and offer the ones that are good.

This system has a inductive sensor build into a remanufactured distributor housing or your original one. The mechanic advance system is locked and replaced by the software on the programmable CDI unit. The CDI unit can be built into a remanufactured dinoplex housing. Unfortunately it won’t fit into the original housing.



Proven System with eye sensor instead of the original contact points first developed by dinoplex.org

- no wear of contact points

- advance curve still mechanicaly (not maintenance free)

  • Trigger Wheel Ignition
    This Foto will shock purists and lead to rotation of Alfredo Ferrari himself.

For sure most Dino owners won’t accept such desecrations but especially those with performance Dino engines can get better performance and drivability with such a trigger wheel ignition and injection. If you enjoy some crafty engineering work yourself we can supply you with the right components.

  • State of the art engine management with a 3D ignition and injection map.

This ignition system for your Dino leaves nothing to be desired:

- original look: the electronic components are installed in original distributor or DinoPlex housings.
- The precision mechanics for advance adjustment in the distributor are replaced by a continuous shaft. The ignition curve is
programmed in the electronics, which are installed in the Dinoplex housing. In the delivered state, the
ignition curve is programmed.

- All electronic components used here are industrially manufactured and have proven themselves thousands of times over.
- The design and manufacture of the mechanical components and the choice of materials are of the highest quality.
- In this ignition system, only the inductive sensor is located in the distributor housing. Other electronics are
decoupled from the heat and vibrations of the engine in the Dinoplex housing.

- The ignition performance is very good over the entire speed range thanks to the CDI.
